Abstract: The presence of Andean bears (Tremarctos ornatus) in Argentina, has been widely discussed because of the absence of confirmatory evidence, now many experts doubt his presence Bear in the country. However, the Forest Tucuman-Bolivian Yungas is an ecosystem or typical where you can find this species, particularly in the area studied, the habitat appears to be of high quality for bears. Between 2001 and 2006, we collected 23 cases of evidence of the presence of Andean bears in the provinces of Salta and Jujuy in northern Argentina. There were footprints, food remains and feces. Additionally, we interviewed indigenous farmers and hunters to collect other data on the species in the region. We conclude that the Yungas of northwestern tip of Argentina, should be considered an area with high probability of maintaining a resident population of Andean bears. Although perhaps this is a small isolated population, the permanent presence Andean bears in northern Argentina should not be doubted.

Indirect Evidence of the Presence of the Andean bear in north western Argentina.
Abstract: Indirect Evidence of the Presence of the Andean bear in north western Argentina. The Presence of Andean bears (Tremarctos ornatus) in Argentina Has Been Disputed due to the Absence of confirming evidence; currently many Andean bear experts doubt their presence in this country. Nevertheless, the Tucuman-Bolivian Forest or Yungas is a typical ecosystem where this species can be found, in the particular area studied, the habitat appears to be of high quality for bears. Between 2001 and 2006, 23 cases of evidence of the presence of Andean bears in the provinces of Salta and Jujuy in northern Argentina where recorded. Footprints, food remains and scats were found. In addition, indigenous, farmers, and hunters where interviewed to collect other data of this species in the area. The conclusion is that the Yungas Forest of the extreme northwest of Argentina must be considered an area with high probability of maintaining a resident population of Andean bears. Although this Probably is a small and isolated Perhaps Population, the permanent Presence of Andean bears in the north of Argentina dog No Longer Be Doubt.
